Simply the Best: Tina Tuner – an obituary.

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock, was an American singer, songwriter, actress and author. She rose to fame in the 1960s and early 1970s as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Tina Turner, known for her powerful voice, energetic performances and signature dance moves, became one of rock music’s most successful and recognizable personalities.

After a turbulent and abusive relationship with her former husband and musical partner Ike Turner, Tina Turner launched a solo career in the late 1970s. She achieved great success with her albums “Private Dancer” (1984) and “Break Every Rule” (1986), which spawned numerous hit singles such as “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Private Dancer” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero.” Their music mixed different genres like rock, pop, soul and R&B.

Tina Turner’s electrifying performances and distinctive voice made her a popular figure in the music industry. During her career, she received numerous awards, including 12 Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1993, she published her autobiography, “I, Tina,” in which she detailed her life and career, including her triumphs and struggles.

In addition to her music career, Tina Turner has appeared in several films, including “Tommy” (1975), “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” (1985) and “What’s Love Got to Do with It” (1993), a biographical film based on her life. She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of herself in “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.

Tina Turner retired in 2009 after her “Tina! 50th Anniversary Tour” back from their performances. However, their influence on music and pop culture continues unabated, and their music is still influential today.

In 2013, she suffered a stroke from which she never really recovered. After numerous other serious illnesses, she now died at the age of 83 in her adopted country of Switzerland.
