HaFaBra 2025: A start to the year with musical brilliance for wind orchestras

The new catalog “HaFaBra 2025: New Year Music for Wind Band” takes the tradition of festive New Year’s music for wind band to a new level. The catalog combines classics of the waltz, march and polka literature in magnificent arrangements and is a real treasure trove for conductors and musicians who want to enrich their programs with a touch of elegance, nostalgia and energy.

A firework display of classics
The selection of pieces by Johann Strauss (son) forms the heart of the catalog. Works such as the Annen Polka, the Rider March, the lilting Roses from the South or the popular Spring Voices Waltz transport the audience directly to the glamorous era of the Viennese ballroom. The world-famous Pizzicato Polka, which was composed jointly by Johann Strauss Sohn and Josef Strauss, is also an unmissable highlight.

But it is not only Johann Strauss son who lends his charm to the catalog. His brother, Josef Strauss, shines with the rousing Fire Festival Polka, and with Bahn frei, Eduard Strauss brings a touch of dynamism and tempo to the program.

International accents and special features
The catalog impresses with its international diversity. Works such as the Czech classic Louisiana Polka by Bedřich Smetana, the rhythmic and humorous Spanish March and the world-famous Waltz of the Flowers by Tchaikovsky offer a welcome change from the sounds of the Viennese waltz.

German composers are not neglected either: with the lively Berlin air, the charming sounds of the Folies Bergère and the exotic Siamese Guard Parade by Paul Lincke, the typical Berlin operetta charm is brought to the stage. Added to this are pieces such as the cheerful Petersburger Schlittenfahrt by Richard Eilenberg and the original character piece Parade of the Tin Soldiers by Leon Jessel, which make the audience smile and at the same time demand musical precision.

New discoveries and arrangements
The new arrangements, such as the potpourri Waltzing with Strauss, arranged by Walter Kalischnig, are a particular enrichment. This medley combines some of Johann Strauss’ most beautiful melodies in a flowing, harmonious sequence. The famous Radetzky March, here in a fresh version by Kalischnig, also provides a traditional highlight in every concert. The catalog also offers rarities such as the Festjubel March by Geert Flik, which is rarely performed despite its historical value.

Most of the arrangements of these classical works were made by Yo Kitano, but Jean-Pierre Haeck and Louis Martinus have also added arrangements. Together with Walter Kalischnig, all names are recognized musicians, conductors and arrangers in brass music circles.

A must-have for the new year
With its wide selection of styles, eras and levels of difficulty, the HaFaBra 2025 catalog is an indispensable companion for wind orchestras who want to offer their audiences a glamorous start to the new year. The combination of classics and creative arrangements offers the right piece for every taste and occasion.

Conductor’s tip: A varied program could begin with a lively polka such as the Annen Polka, continue with a majestic waltz such as Roses from the South and end triumphantly with the rousing Berliner Luft or the Radetzky March. Prepare to wow your audience – the HaFaBra 2025 catalog has musical fireworks in store for every wind orchestra!
