The United States Marine Band is a sounding body of the United States Marine Corps and was established by law on 11 July 1798. It is the oldest extant music corps in United States military history. The unit is stationed at the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C.. Since 1801, the actual main task has been to play concerts for the President of the United States. This is why the orchestra is nicknamed “The President’s Own”. The ensemble performs mainly at the inaugurations of the Presidents of the United States, funerals with military honours, state visits at home and the Friday Evening Parades in front of the barracks (between May and August). About 500 concerts are given annually.
The WASBE Conference will take place in Prague from 19 to 22 July 2022. National and international orchestras will present themselves at this meeting of the UNESCO sub-organisation. On 20 July, the American orchestra “The President’s Own” will give a concert. One day later, the Prague Castle Guard and Czech Police Symphonic Band will give a guest performance in St. Vitus’s Cathedral, also a concert worth hearing. Further highlights are:
